Delta Dental Retiree Plan: Harvard offers to benefits-eligible retirees retiree dental benefits under the Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier Plan (Group Number 003603). 800-872-0500; www.deltadentalma.com.

Harvard is one of the few employers that offer any dental coverage to retirees. The Harvard retirees’ dental plan is different from the dental plan that is available to active employees. You can learn more about the Retiree Dental Plan on the HHR Website.

You must meet health care eligibility to receive this coverage and you must elect it at the time you retire. Retirees who do not elect retiree dental coverage when they retire will never again be eligible to elect retiree dental coverage through Harvard, with one exception – if they waive medical and dental coverage when they retired from the University and later elect retiree medical coverage, they may also elect retiree dental coverage at that time.

Those who elect retiree dental coverage and later drop it, are not eligible to elect it again in the future.

HUHS Dental Clinic: The Dental Clinic at Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) provides diagnostic and preventive care, as well as restorative and endodontic procedures, oral surgery, periodontics, and pedodontics. The Dental Clinic accepts the Delta Dental PPO “Plus Premier” Plan. The Clinic will bill your dental plan directly. HUHS Dental Services does not participate in any Delta Preferred Plan. The Clinic also offers services on a fee-for-service basis.

Due to the high demand for service, HUHS Dental Services reserves the right to charge patients who do not show up for appointments or cancel at least 24 hours in advance. HUHS, 114 Mt. Auburn Street, 7th Floor; 617-495-2063; huhs.harvard.edu/HealthServices/Dental.aspx.

Harvard Dental Center includes the Teaching Practice and Faculty Group Dental Practice at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

In the Faculty Group Practice, faculty members provide comprehensive dental care. The Teaching Practice, which uses Dental School student practitioners, charges 30% to 50% less than standard fees in the Faculty Group Practice or in the private sector. Student dentists, who are supervised by Harvard faculty, provide affordable and comprehensive care to patients in the fields of general dentistry,

Periodontics, Prosthodontics (including Implant Dentistry), Endodontics, orthodontics and dental hygiene. Both programs accept the Delta Dental Plan. 188 Longwood Avenue, Boston; 617-432-1434; harvarddentalcenter.harvard.edu/asp-html/.

The HURA Dental Plan is an old Harvard retirees’ plan that has been closed to new enrollees for many years.
